Chairman- Tom Kennedy

Law degree from Manchester University, postgraduate studies in France and Italy. Barrister, UK civil servant 1979-83; European Court of Justice 1983-1999, UN Tribunal for Rwanda 1999-2003, European Court of Auditors 2003-2014 (retd.). Member of the Committee since 2015, Chairman since 2019. ECB accredited cricket umpire.

Vice-Chairman - Bob Hull

BA History; BT; MBA Manchester; Commission trade 1974-1979; UK civil servant; Commission, Internal Market, Environment; Director EESC 1998-2006; MA Theatre Performance RADA; Newcastle Univ Council 2006-2015; Mayor Hexham 2019-2021. AIACE committee 2007 to date.

Treasurer - John Wiggins

CMG. Degree in classics and history from Oxford University, subsequently Masters in Economics from Harvard Univ. UK civil servant 1961-92. UK Member of the European Court of Auditors 1993-2001. Currently works as consultant on public financial management.

Secretary + Web - Alan Huyton

European Commission 1990-2016, mostly in HR with the environment/climate DG. Now active with U3A and for AIACE, convenor of the Scotland Region etc. Married, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 1 lockdown cat. Vegan. Interests - birds, boardgames, books.

 

Membership team coordinator - Melanie Leivers

Biochemistry/Pharmacology BSc.Hons (Leeds, 1983).  Post Graduate Diploma in EU Law (King’s College, University of London (1999). CELTA (International House, 2018). Worked for agricultural cooperatives in UK and Brussels, European Commission (DG XI) and pharmaceutical industry. Subsequently worked for 21 years at the European Medicines Agency until 2017.  Currently active as a volunteer with literacy projects. Other interests include travelling, tai chi, and a French literature group.  Member of AIACE since June 2017; co-opted onto the AIACE-UK Committee 2017 and elected Committee member in 2018 (focusing on membership support).

Membership team - Jane Cornelius

Bilingual secretarial training leading to administrative positions in the UK and abroad, ranging from university booksellers to Lloyd's Brokers (London), the oil industry (Brussels and Houston), UN/non-profit organisations in Tangier, Paris, Geneva and Washington, D.C., prior to joining the European Medicines Agency from 1996 until retirement in 2013. Now, keen member U3A language and literature groups and Red Cross retail volunteer.

BA Birmingham (Geography), MA Reading (European Studies); Economist, UK Farmers’ Unions (London and Brussels) 1972 -1983; European Commission DG Agri (Brussels), 1983-2004.
Member of AIACE-UK Committee, AIACE Bureau, Commission Group for Salaries and Pensions. Married, 2 daughters.

 

JSIS Ambassador / Expert - Michael Hocken

Modern Languages (Oxford), French Lit. & Lang. (Sorbonne), Federal Politics (Stiftung Maximileaneum, Munich); SCIC trainee & staff interpreter; TEPSA: preparation of incoming Presidency teams; Commission Translator; Political Secretary ECSF/Chair Brussels Staff Committee; Head of Personnel & Admin Justice & Home Affairs Task Force/DG; invalided out in 2003. Post retirement activities: JP, AIACE UK/INT, Lay Adviser RCPath, trustee of community woodland, dry stone walling.

CMG, Modern Languages (Cambridge). European Parliament official 1975-2010 (Deputy Secretary-General, Secretary-General of the Socialist Group, EP Spokesman and Director of Press and Media). Chair and senior adviser at Burson Cohn & Wolfe (Brussels office) 2010-2020. Practitioner Fellow at Aston University,  Member of the Advisory Council, Foreign Policy Centre. Writer of numerous articles and author of 'Matters of Record: Inside European Politics'

 

Vox Correspondent - Belinda Pyke

European Commission 1986-2017 ( Cabinets 1986-96, Head of Unit 1996-2001, Director 2001-2017.)
Now: volunteer in a charity shop, trustee of two charities, vaccination care volunteer. AIACE committee since 2018 and member of Vox editorial committee.

Veterinary degree from Bristol University, postgraduate studies at Edinburgh and Liverpool. Various roles in international development and animal health research overseas 1981-2001. European Commission (Research and Innovation) 2001-2014
